Day 8
Scalby, Scarborough to Filey
Walked 14 miles
11.5 CW Miles + 0.25 extra mile from campsite & 2.25 miles around Filey.
We woke up to another glorious sunny day for our last day of walking. We've been so lucky with the weather this week. A lazy pack up this morning, we were in no rush as our train home from Filey is not until 7pm. Just a banana for breakfast to keep us going to Scarborough - no porridge left, we've eaten all the food we bought with us.
As its the last day we decided we'd treat ourselves and buy food today. After a 45 minute walk we arrived in North Bay, Scarborough where we stopped for a cooked English Breakfast sitting outside in the sun.
There is no official Cleveland Way route through Scarborough so from there we wondered all the way along the seafront to South Bay enjoying watching everyone doing their own thing in the sun. Dogs on the beach were having a fantastic playful time. There were a few surfers out trying to find a wave in the small surf and a handful of sailing boats racing by.
We stopped again at the end of South Bay at the newly opened Clock Tower Cafe for coffee & cake, again a nice seat outside in the sun people watching. This kept us going until the evening and for the last 9 miles to the finish.
The Cleveland Way finished on the headland just before entering Filey with a carved stone to mark the end (similar to the start). It was another mile into Filey itself.
We had a wonder round Filey, it didn't take long it's not a big place, so we were left with time to kill. A cuppa near the beach, a wonder through the park where a brass band were playing, Sunday papers and a couple of drinks in The Star pub then an excellent value pizza during Happy Hour at an Italian restaurant (can't remember its name).
We caught our 7pm train home. Looking forward to seeing our lovely dog Bella who'd have loved the walk but it was too far & too hot for her sadly to join us.
Also looking forward to a nice bath and clean clothes - we whiff a bit!
