Our Dream Adventure

OUR DREAM ADVENTURE...

In 2014/2015 we are taking some 'Time Out' and planning an adventure trip of a lifetime.

We will start with a six month thru hike of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail or 'AT' for short. A 2186 mile (3500km) trail running along the eastern United States of America.

Next we will be taking a break from daily hiking (there will be some hiking involved though!) and will be going on an amazing three month adventure holiday through South America.

Finally, back to thru hiking again. This time five to six months in New Zealand hiking the Te Araroa - New Zealand's Trail ('TA' for short). A 1865 mile (3000km) trail spanning the whole of New Zealand.

We have set up this Blog so that family, friends and anyone else who is interested, can follow our adventure which will include blogs about our planning and preparation stages as well as our whole amazing trip.

(So not to bore you with too much information, if you wish to read or learn more about what The Appalachian Trail and the Te Araroa Trail are all about see the 'Links' below the three maps in the left hand column.)

Day 133 Zero day No 13 - Gorham

Today's miles 0.  AT miles 1887

Today turned out to be a good day to take a rest day, temperatures reached 91°F/33°C with high humidity too. These are valley temperatures it would have been a bit cooler in the mountains but still very hot for hiking.  We had breakfast at the motel then caught a bus out to Walmart two miles away to do our food resupply.  The locals were shopping in preparation for July 4th celebrations in two days time, lots were also walking out with electric room fans, its obviously too hot for them too.  Walmart over here sells everything, this store had canoes and pedalos for sale.

Milk Monsta and Pillow carried on hiking today.  Wall-E had a shuttle booked for 3pm to take her to the next trail town so left her bags in our room after she checked out. After food shopping Wall-E joined us and we went to McDonald's for lunch and to use their WiFi services again, the motel WiFi is very temperamental.  I managed to get all our blog posts up to date and Skype home.  Back at the motel Wall-E got her shuttle, hopefully her feet get better soon and we'll see them all again before we finish, you never know with this trail, itineraries and plans change all the time.

We didn't do much the rest of the day, we sorted our trail food into daily meals and then had afternoon snoozes.  It rained late afternoon/early evening but no thunderstorms as predicted. The next couple of days are forecast 50% chance of thunderstorms/rain showers, hopefully we won't get too much rain, it's still going to be warm though.
