Our Dream Adventure

OUR DREAM ADVENTURE...

In 2014/2015 we are taking some 'Time Out' and planning an adventure trip of a lifetime.

We will start with a six month thru hike of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail or 'AT' for short. A 2186 mile (3500km) trail running along the eastern United States of America.

Next we will be taking a break from daily hiking (there will be some hiking involved though!) and will be going on an amazing three month adventure holiday through South America.

Finally, back to thru hiking again. This time five to six months in New Zealand hiking the Te Araroa - New Zealand's Trail ('TA' for short). A 1865 mile (3000km) trail spanning the whole of New Zealand.

We have set up this Blog so that family, friends and anyone else who is interested, can follow our adventure which will include blogs about our planning and preparation stages as well as our whole amazing trip.

(So not to bore you with too much information, if you wish to read or learn more about what The Appalachian Trail and the Te Araroa Trail are all about see the 'Links' below the three maps in the left hand column.)

Day 140 Zero Day No 14 - Rangeley

Today's miles 0.  AT miles 1951.7

Happy Birthday to Nigel, it's his big 50 today.  No big celebrations though unfortunately, we've taken another zero day because I'm still not feeling 100% better.  We'll celebrate his birthday when we finish the trail, he's got a big canoe trip to look forward to.  I could tell I was feeling a bit better this morning though as I started tidying a few things up in our hotel room!

Another easy lazy day, we went for a look around a couple of the outdoor/gift shops in Rangeley.  Lots of nice things but we can't buy anything yet until we finish. Nigel did buy a new Patagonia T-shirt though, he can throw away his chopped off arms hiker trash T-shirt now!  We then went for lunch at the BMC Diner then back to the hotel for an afternoon nap. I've still not got my full appetite back, but I've been trying to eat more today to rebuild my energy.  Nigel however is constantly snacking, cake, crisps/chips, ice cream.  He's enjoyed being able to watch the World Cup the last couple of days in the hotel too.  In the evening we went to The Red Onion, a very popular, also 50 years old, pizza restaurant.   Nigel had pizza, I had Caesar salad.
