Our Dream Adventure

OUR DREAM ADVENTURE...

In 2014/2015 we are taking some 'Time Out' and planning an adventure trip of a lifetime.

We will start with a six month thru hike of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail or 'AT' for short. A 2186 mile (3500km) trail running along the eastern United States of America.

Next we will be taking a break from daily hiking (there will be some hiking involved though!) and will be going on an amazing three month adventure holiday through South America.

Finally, back to thru hiking again. This time five to six months in New Zealand hiking the Te Araroa - New Zealand's Trail ('TA' for short). A 1865 mile (3000km) trail spanning the whole of New Zealand.

We have set up this Blog so that family, friends and anyone else who is interested, can follow our adventure which will include blogs about our planning and preparation stages as well as our whole amazing trip.

(So not to bore you with too much information, if you wish to read or learn more about what The Appalachian Trail and the Te Araroa Trail are all about see the 'Links' below the three maps in the left hand column.)

South America Days 17 & 18

Day 17 - Not much to report today, we had a lazy rest day as we had a free day back in Cusco town again.  A group of ten of us went for lunch to Paddy's Bar as a farewell meal to Sue and Edwin who were leaving the trip today, a lovely couple we'll miss them.  We had a quick wander around town, I bought a lovely, 100% baby alpaca wool, jumper then we headed back to the hotel.  Nigel was a bit better but still not feeling great so we just rested and I got the photos and blog up to date.

Day 18 - we had a long drive day today from Cusco to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca.  We had an early start leaving at 7am but unfortunately Amber, our Dragoman truck, broke down about three hours drive outside of Cusco.  She'd had some major gear work done on her in Cusco whilst we were trekking the Inca Trail but it was obviously not done properly as the clutch failed/burnt out.  Vikki and Eoin (our new co crew member) organised a replacement bus for us which took about four hours to arrive from Cusco.  A team of four mechanics also arrived after a couple of hours to fix Amber.  We all patiently waited in the sun for the replacement bus to arrive.  We were supposed to be visiting some ruins, Sillustani ruins near lake Umayo, on the way but had to cancel that visit.  We weren't too bothered we've seen lots of ruins although these were pre Inca.  It was 8.30pm by the time we reached Puno, all very tired.  Luckily Amber was fixed and Eoin arrived with her in Puno around midnight.
