Our Dream Adventure

OUR DREAM ADVENTURE...

In 2014/2015 we are taking some 'Time Out' and planning an adventure trip of a lifetime.

We will start with a six month thru hike of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail or 'AT' for short. A 2186 mile (3500km) trail running along the eastern United States of America.

Next we will be taking a break from daily hiking (there will be some hiking involved though!) and will be going on an amazing three month adventure holiday through South America.

Finally, back to thru hiking again. This time five to six months in New Zealand hiking the Te Araroa - New Zealand's Trail ('TA' for short). A 1865 mile (3000km) trail spanning the whole of New Zealand.

We have set up this Blog so that family, friends and anyone else who is interested, can follow our adventure which will include blogs about our planning and preparation stages as well as our whole amazing trip.

(So not to bore you with too much information, if you wish to read or learn more about what The Appalachian Trail and the Te Araroa Trail are all about see the 'Links' below the three maps in the left hand column.)

South America Day 38

Another long drive day, 600km, as we headed further south in Argentina to Mendoza.  The original itinerary was to bush camp half way to split the journey but we all were happy to have a long day driving to get to Mendoza and sleep in a hostel an extra night instead, allowing us two full free days in Mendoza. We stopped in Villa Mercedes town for what was supposed to be a quick forty five minute lunch stop, only Amber our truck had some electrical problems, she had no lights.  So we were all stranded killing time in town for another hour whilst Vikki and Owen took Amber to find an electrician.  They returned, light problem all sorted.

Mendoza is another popular wine producing region but also popular for outdoor activities due to its proximity to Aconcagua, South Americas highest peak, there are many opportunities to explore the mountains in this area. We finally arrived at our hostel in Mendosa about 9pm.  We were supposed to be sharing dorm rooms, one for all the single girls, one for the single boys and one for the couples. We didn't mind sharing but the three other couples opted to upgrade and pay for a private room at a hotel just down the road from the hostel so Nigel and I got a private dorm anyway for no extra cost!
