We left Torres del Paine National Park early this morning, 6:30am, as we had a long 600kms drive towards Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia, the city at the end of the world! We definitely had the best of the weather the last few days, it was cloudy with low cloud obscuring the mountains, overcast and drizzly as we left, it did brighten up the further south we went. We had a ferry crossing today across the infamous Magellan Straits separating Tierra del Fuego (land of fire) from mainland Argentina. We had lunch at the ferry port before catching the ferry. The straights are about 500km long and takes it's name from the explorer Magellan who first navigated the waters in 1520. His ship was the only ship out of a total of 17 attempting the passage that successfully managed to reach the Pacific.
Later we crossed the border from Chile back into Argentina again for the last time at San Sebastian. A really smooth border crossing taking just one hour, no bag checks at all this time. We'd made such good time we pushed on driving to Ushuaia, we were scheduled to bush camp somewhere for the night on route. We arrived at our hostel just before 9:30pm meaning we get an extra full free day in Ushuaia before this leg of our trip ends.
