We had a nice lie in today it was nine o'clock when we woke up. The morning we spent getting necessary jobs done, luckily everywhere was close by to motel. Nigel went to the launderette just around the corner to get our laundry done whilst I updated our blog and sorted a few other bits out. We then went across the road for brunch to the Sunnyside Diner, delicious blueberry pancakes for me and corned beef hash omelette for Nigel, large portions but we managed it all. Food resupply next from a newly opened Dollar General right next to our motel.
We saved walking any distance until the afternoon. About a mile/mile and a half out of town started a stretch of retail outlets and a cinema. We could have got a bus but decided to walk otherwise our legs stiffen up with no exercise. We got a few bits we needed from CVS pharmacy including some extra strong bug spray. Next stop was the Super Shoe Store. Nigel needed some new trail shoes and amazingly bought the first pair he tried on, some New Balance Trail Shoes. Next was Walmart for a few bits we couldn't get from Dollar General and some camping gas, but unfortunately they were out of stock. Hopefully we have enough gas left to last us until the next town. We stopped at the Dairy Bar for an ice cream milkshake, Nigel and ice cream Flurrie, me. They had an interesting painted lifesize moose sculpture in front of their outlet, we've seen a few of these painted moose and a couple of painted cat sculptures in Bennington. We're not sure what the story is behind these sculptures. At least if we don't see any real moose in Maine we've seen some lifesize models!
We continued walking a bit further along the road to the local cinema to see the new XMen - Days of Future Past movie. On the way we passed the tallest ladderback chair in the world at a road junction. We were the first to arrive at the cinema for a twenty past four showing, it wasn't very busy just one other person turned up in our screen. A bargain matinee price though, $5 each, the popcorn cost more! Good film though, we enjoyed it. After it finished we had ten minutes to walk back to Walmart to catch the last bus of the day back to town so we didn't have to walk all the way back, we just made it. Another bargain, 50 cents each, what an excellent cheap town bus service.
Back at the motel Nigel was hungry so ordered a pizza delivery, a very nice 16" New York pizza from Ramunto's local pizzeria, I managed a couple of slices of it. Not a very healthy food day today! There was a fish and chip shop in town called Lil' Britain, we were hoping to go to but unfortunately it was closed.
